The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development, in partnership with the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA), is inviting applications for its 2026 Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme. This initiative provides 36 paid workplace-learning placements aimed at unemployed TVET College students who have completed their N6 National Certificate in selected fields.
About the WIL Programme
The KZN Social Development WIL Programme offers students the opportunity to gain practical workplace experience essential for progressing towards their National Diploma. The programme runs for 18 months and pays a monthly stipend of R4,000. It specifically supports students in the fields of Public Management, Management Assistant, Financial Management, and Human Resource Management.
Who May Apply?
- Unemployed TVET College students residing in KwaZulu-Natal
- Applicants must have completed an N6 National Certificate in one of the four specified disciplines
- Applicants must not have previously participated in any WIL programme within government at national, provincial, or local levels
- Must be computer literate and willing to undergo a selection process including a structured interview
- Prepared to relocate to the allocated workplace at own cost if required
- Must provide a letter from their educational institution confirming the need for workplace experience
Placements and Locations
The 36 placements are divided equally among the four qualification streams, with nine positions each. They are available at various offices across KwaZulu-Natal including Pietermaritzburg, eThekwini (North and South), Harry Gwala, iLembe, King Cetshwayo, uMzinyathi, uThukela, uMkhanyakude, uMgungundlovu, Amajuba, and others.
Requirements
- Completed N6 National Certificate specific to the chosen field (Public Management, Management Assistant, Financial Management, Human Resource Management)
- Proof of residence within KwaZulu-Natal
- No previous government WIL experience
- Must submit supporting documentation, including a completed Z83 application form, CV, certified copies of qualifications (N6 Certificate required, statement of results not accepted), ID copy, letter from institution, and affidavit confirming no prior WIL participation
Important Considerations
Participants must understand that this WIL experience is a key component toward National Diploma completion where required by their educational institution. The monthly stipend is R4,000, with no additional relocation or accommodation allowance provided, so applicants should consider the financial feasibility of relocating if placed away from their home district.

The closing date for applications is 19 October 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
