The Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation is currently accepting applications for the role of Security Officer based at its Head Office in Gauteng. This position provides an opportunity to join the public service security sector with no prior work experience required.

About the Opportunity

The Security Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety of departmental employees, visitors, buildings, equipment, and other assets. Key duties include access control, conducting patrols, managing emergency procedures, and protecting government property. This role requires vigilance to identify and prevent unauthorized access, suspicious behavior, and potential safety hazards.

Who Can Apply

This vacancy is suitable for candidates registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) holding a Security Grade C or higher qualification. There is no requirement for previous work experience.

Main Requirements

  • Security Grade C qualification or higher.
  • Valid PSIRA certificate.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation including the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS), and the PSIRA Act.
  • Familiarity with workplace emergency procedures.
  • Ability to interact professionally with members of the public, colleagues, and visitors.

Location and Salary

The position is stationed at the Department’s Head Office in Gauteng. The annual salary for this role is R170,226.
