The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) has announced its 2026 Internship Programme aimed at recent graduates in Human Resource Management, Public Administration, and Information Technology. This initiative offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical work experience through 24-month internships based in Gauteng, with a monthly stipend of R7,000.
About the CHIETA Internship Programme 2026
CHIETA supports skills development in the chemical manufacturing sector and related industries in South Africa. Its internship programme is specifically designed to help graduates transition from academic study to professional work environments, providing hands-on experience that is often requested by employers.
The programme includes three distinct internship roles: Human Resource Intern, Administration Intern, and ICT Intern. Each position comes with tailored responsibilities and qualification requirements but shares the common goal of exposing interns to real-world workplace functions and processes.
Who Can Apply and Main Requirements
- Human Resource Intern: Applicants must hold an NQF Level 7 qualification in Human Resource Management or a related field, with a minimum overall academic average of 65%. No prior work experience is required. Computer literacy is essential, and a valid driver’s licence is advantageous.
- Administration Intern: Candidates should have an NQF Level 6 qualification in Public Management, Administration, or a related field. Like the HR internship, a minimum academic average of 65% and computer literacy are required, with work experience not mandatory. A driver’s licence and reliable vehicle are beneficial.
- ICT Intern: Applicants need a National Diploma in Information Technology or a related qualification, a minimum 65% academic average, and must reside in Gauteng Province. No previous experience is necessary. A driver’s licence is also advantageous.
Key Responsibilities for Each Internship Placement
- Human Resource Intern: Assisting with employee induction, data analysis regarding leave and termination, supporting performance management, coordinating employee wellness events, and helping with recruitment administration.
- Administration Intern: Providing administrative support within the Office of the CEO including note-taking during meetings, managing records, assisting with audit processes, handling travel bookings, and supporting communication activities.
- ICT Intern: Supporting daily ICT operations such as technical assistance, maintenance, user support, documentation management, and preparing reports within the ICT Support Unit in Midrand, Gauteng.
Location and Duration
All internships are based in Gauteng Province, with the ICT position specifically located in Midrand. Each internship runs for a full 24 months, allowing interns to immerse themselves thoroughly in their respective areas.
Closing Dates
- Human Resource and Administration internships close on 16 October 2026.
- ICT internship applications close on 23 October 2026.
Applicants should submit their applications ahead of these deadlines and avoid last-minute submissions.
How to Apply
Applications must be sent by email to [email protected]. When applying, it is important to carefully match your qualification with the relevant internship:
- Use the subject line format recommended by CHIETA for clarity, for example, Application – Human Resource Intern – HR2026 for the HR internship.
- Attach required documents depending on the internship role. For Human Resource and Administration internships, include a CV, academic record, certified copies of your South African ID, Matric certificate, and relevant tertiary qualifications. For the ICT position, a CV is explicitly requested.
Double-check that all attachments are clear and complete before submitting.
What Applicants Should Know Before Applying
Applicants with N6 qualifications from TVET colleges should verify if their qualifications meet the NQF levels required by CHIETA for these internships. Specifically, the Human Resource internship requires NQF Level 7, the Administration internship NQF Level 6, and the ICT internship requires a National Diploma or equivalent.
Completing this internship does not promise employment but provides valuable workplace experience to enhance a graduate’s professional profile. This opportunity serves as a starting point to better prepare for future roles in HR, administration, or ICT.
