Western Cape Government Launches 2026 Repair and Refurbishment Learnership for Cape Metro Youth

The Western Cape Government, through its Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning and in partnership with the E-Waste Recycling Authority (ERA), is offering a Repair and Refurbishment Learnership Programme for 2026. This initiative is designed to equip young people from the Cape Metro area with practical skills in repairing and refurbishing electrical and electronic appliances while promoting sustainable practices within the circular economy.

About the Learnership Programme

This 12-month programme starts with a free three-month appliance-repair training course, providing foundational knowledge and skills at no cost to participants. This is followed by a nine-month paid learnership, where learners gain hands-on experience working with electrical and electronic devices, preparing them for technical roles in the industry.

Who Can Apply?

The programme targets youth aged 18 to 35 years residing in the Cape Metro region. Applicants should have a keen interest in electronics and the repair of electrical appliances. Preference is given to those who have completed Matric, particularly with background in Pure Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, or Technical Mathematics.
