ORBIT TVET College, in partnership with ETDP SETA and the North West Provincial Government, is providing a six-month Occupational Skills Programme focused on training unemployed youth as Assistant Handypersons. This programme is designed to equip participants with practical skills in basic building maintenance across trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical work, flooring, and window maintenance.
About the Programme
The Assistant Handyperson Skills Programme aims to prepare young people for entry-level roles undertaking minor repair, replacement, and maintenance tasks in commercial and public buildings. After completing the programme, participants will have hands-on experience in essential maintenance disciplines, creating a foundation for further trade qualifications or artisan development.
Who Can Apply?
This opportunity is available to unemployed youth living in selected areas within the North West Province, specifically the Moses Kotane, Madibeng, and Rustenburg municipalities. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have completed at least Grade 9 with Mathematics as a subject.
No matric certificate is required, making this programme accessible to those who want to gain practical skills without having completed Grade 12.
Programme Location
The training will take place at ORBIT TVET College campuses located within the three participating municipalities:
- Moses Kotane Municipality: Mankwe Campus
- Madibeng Municipality: Brits Campus
- Rustenburg Municipality: Rustenburg Campus
Applicants must submit their applications to the campus serving their municipality of residence.

Applications must include the following certified documents, each no older than six months:
- Certified copy of ID document
- Certified copy of latest academic results
- Proof of residence
- A valid affidavit confirming non-enrolment in another SETA learning programme
The affidavit ensures candidates are not currently participating in another funded SETA learning programme. Honesty in this declaration is important.
