Ekurhuleni West TVET College, in partnership with CXI-Africa and the Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA), presents the CHIETA Data Lab Project – a six-month practical programme focused on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to provide students with real-world experience working with data and developing prototype solutions at the college’s Tembisa Campus.
About the CHIETA Data Lab Project
This programme offers students the opportunity to engage in hands-on projects using real datasets, enhancing their industry readiness in technology-driven roles. Along with theoretical knowledge, participants will apply digital tools to solve problems relevant to data and AI, facilitating the transition from academic studies to practical employment environments.
Who Can Apply?
The opportunity is specifically open to students currently enrolled at Ekurhuleni West TVET College who have successfully completed NC(V) Levels 2, 3, and 4 in Information Technology or hold an equivalent qualification. It is not open to students from other institutions unless otherwise confirmed by the programme administrators.
Programme Location and Duration
The intensive six-month programme will take place at the Ekurhuleni West TVET College Tembisa Campus. Immediate availability is required, meaning applicants should be prepared to commence participation once accepted.
Stipend Details
The programme includes a stipend to support successful participants during the six-month period. While the exact amount is not disclosed, this financial support aims to assist students as they gain valuable workplace skills and experience.
Important Considerations for Applicants
- Applicants should be ready to engage fully at the Tembisa Campus for the entire duration of the programme.
- Though practical experience gained could open pathways into careers such as Data Analyst, Software Developer, or AI specialist, completion of this programme does not guarantee employment.
- Students are encouraged to prepare application materials such as an updated CV, academic records, and South African ID, though these should be confirmed with programme coordinators for completeness.
Application Process
Interested candidates must submit their applications via email to either [email protected] or [email protected]. For further enquiries, applicants can contact the programme via phone at 083 284 9549.
Application Deadline
All applications must be received by 11 September 2026. Due to limited spaces and the requirement for immediate availability, prospective participants are advised to apply promptly.
This Data Lab initiative represents an opportunity for Ekurhuleni West TVET College IT graduates to build practical expertise in data-driven technologies under expert guidance, supported by a stipend, and strengthen their potential for future roles in South Africa’s evolving digital economy.
