The Department of Health and Wellness in the Western Cape is currently accepting applications for the position of Tradesman Aid: Building (Carpentry). This role is located at the department’s Head Office in Cape Town and falls under the Engineering and Technical Support Services Directorate.
About the Opportunity
The position involves providing support to skilled artisans by assisting with carpentry, plumbing, painting, building maintenance, and general repair work. Candidates will contribute to the upkeep and functionality of health facilities across the Western Cape, performing manual tasks and maintenance-related duties.
Who Can Apply and Requirements
This opportunity is open to individuals who have completed Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification. Applicants should have basic workshop experience and practical knowledge related to building and maintenance tasks.
- Understanding or experience in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and general building maintenance is essential.
- Physical fitness is required to carry out manual labour duties.
- Willingness to travel to various health facility sites within the Western Cape is expected.
- Applicants should be capable of handling tools and working safely within workshop or maintenance environments.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills are important for collaborating with artisans, supervisors, and maintenance personnel.
- Knowledge of building regulations (such as SANS 10400), occupational health and safety, and machinery requirements will be beneficial.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist artisans with minor repairs and maintenance including carpentry, plumbing, painting, glazing, and general building tasks.
- Support equipment installation, alterations, and servicing efforts at health facilities.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workshops and working areas.
- Manage tools and materials responsibly, ensuring availability and security.
- Provide support during emergency breakdowns and after-hours repairs when needed.
- Take responsibility for assigned job cards and assist the Artisan Foreman or artisans in carrying out duties.
Location and Salary
This role is based at the Department of Health and Wellness Head Office in Cape Town, Western Cape. The successful candidate will travel within the province as needed for maintenance duties at health facilities.
The annual salary for this post is R144 024.
