The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (KZN EDTEA) is inviting unemployed graduates to apply for its Graduate Internship Programme running from 2027 to 2029. This programme provides 138 structured internship positions across 43 different streams, aimed at providing practical workplace experience and enhancing the employability of graduates.

About the Graduate Internship Programme

This initiative supports skills development aligned with South Africa’s national strategies including the National Skills Development Strategy III and the National Development Plan Vision 2030. The programme spans 24 months, during which selected interns will receive a monthly stipend. It covers a broad range of fields such as Public Administration, Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Communications, Economics, Law, Tourism, Environmental Sciences, Supply Chain Management, Development Studies, Agriculture, Civil Engineering, and related areas.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are open to unemployed graduates who hold relevant qualifications suitable for the chosen internship stream. Accepted qualifications vary depending on the internship and include:

  • Bachelor’s degrees (NQF Level 7)
  • Advanced Diplomas (NQF Level 7)
  • National Diplomas (NQF Level 6)
  • Honours degrees or Postgraduate Diplomas (NQF Level 8)

Applicants must ensure their qualification corresponds to the specific internship reference number they intend to apply for, as listed in the official advertisement. Qualifications must be obtained from recognised universities, universities of technology, or TVET colleges where relevant.

The programme offers opportunities in various specialisations, with placements predominantly in KwaZulu-Natal’s provincial district offices, including Pietermaritzburg, Durban, Richards Bay, Mkuze, and others. Programme Details and Benefits

Application Process and Required Documents

Applicants must submit a completed and signed new Z83 Application for Employment form, effective from 1 January 2021. This form can be obtained from any public service department or downloaded from government recruitment resources referenced by KZN EDTEA. Alongside this form, a detailed updated CV must be provided, clearly indicating starting and leaving dates of any previous employment.

It is crucial to accurately quote the internship reference number corresponding to the desired placement. Failure to fully complete the application or to disclose all required information may lead to disqualification.

Closing Date

The closing date for applications is 2 October 2026. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
