The South African Department of Transport is inviting applications for its Internship Programme running from 2027 to 2029. This programme offers 77 internship and work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities targeting both university graduates and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) N6 students across multiple professional fields.

About the Internship Programme

The programme consists of 62 Graduate Internship positions lasting 24 months and 15 Work Integrated Learning (WIL) positions for TVET N6 students, lasting 18 months. Interns will gain practical experience in areas including administration, finance, IT, human resources, engineering, transport, aviation, maritime studies, logistics, law, environmental management, and town planning, among others. Most positions are based at the Department’s Head Office in Pretoria.

Who Can Apply

Applications are open to South African graduates from universities and universities of technology as well as TVET College students who have completed their N6 qualifications in fields related to the available internship disciplines. This intake covers a broad range of study areas, including but not limited to:

Stipends and Duration

  • Graduate internships last 24 months with a monthly stipend of approximately R8,174.75, varying by qualification.
  • WIL positions for TVET N6 students span 18 months, with a typical monthly stipend of around R6,131.

Available Positions and Locations

The 77 opportunities include specialized roles such as Corporate Legal Intern, Business Intelligence Intern, Labour Relations Intern, Engineering and Transport-focused internships, and public transport roles covering all nine South African provinces. Although some internships reference provinces, most are located at the Pretoria Head Office.
