The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements has opened applications for its 2026–2028 Internship Programme, providing 34 internship opportunities across Johannesburg, Alberton, Krugersdorp, and Pretoria. This programme targets unemployed South African graduates, offering them practical work experience in line with their academic qualifications.

About the Internship Programme

This internship initiative is designed to support young graduates who have completed relevant National Diplomas or Degrees but lack workplace experience. Successful candidates will be engaged on a 24-month contract and receive a monthly stipend of R8,174.75. The programme covers multiple professional streams connected to the department’s functions and services.

Who Can Apply?

  • South African citizens aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Unemployed graduates who hold a relevant National Diploma or Degree
  • Applicants who have not participated in any previous internship programmes
  • Applicants not currently enrolled in any academic or qualification programmes

The 34 positions are divided among 13 internship streams, including but not limited to:

  • Accounting, Finance, and Financial Management
  • Supply Chain Management and Logistics
  • Law and Labour Relations
  • Property Management
  • Civil Engineering, Building Engineering, and Construction Management
  • Monitoring and Evaluation, Programme Information Management, and Strategic Management
  • Public Administration and Social Sciences
  • Human Resource Management and Development
  • Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations
  • Internal Audit Services and Risk Management
  • Town Planning and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Gender Studies and Sector Transformation

Programme Locations

Internship placements will be in different Gauteng locations, including:

  • Johannesburg
  • Alberton
  • Krugersdorp (West Rand)
  • Pretoria (Tshwane Region)

Application Requirements and Documents

Applicants must submit a fully completed Z83 form along with the following supporting documents:

  • Certified copy of the Matric certificate
  • Certified copy of the highest academic qualification
  • Copy of South African identity document
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
