Who Can Apply?

Applicants should have a background in technical education suitable for the apprenticeship trades. Eligible qualifications include:

  • Technical Grade 11 with relevant technical subjects
  • N2 Engineering Studies with relevant subjects
  • NC(V) Level 4 with all relevant subjects

The term “relevant subjects” here means technical and engineering subjects aligned with the trade—electrical subjects for Electrician apprenticeships, mechanical or fabrication subjects for Mechanical Fitter or Welder apprenticeships.

Available Trades

  • Welder: This trade involves metal joining, fabrication, repair, and maintenance across sectors such as manufacturing, construction, and mining.
  • Mechanical Fitter: This role covers assembly, installation, inspection, and repair of mechanical machinery in industries like mining, manufacturing, and energy.
  • Electrician: Electricians maintain and repair electrical systems used in infrastructure, mining, manufacturing, and energy sectors.

Location and Application Details

Applications must be physically delivered to the Skills Academy and Artisan Development Centre in Standerton. Neither faxed nor emailed applications will be accepted. Candidates must submit the following uncertified documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) clearly specifying the trade applied for (Welder, Mechanical Fitter, or Electrician apprenticeship)
  • Uncertified copy of identity document
  • Uncertified copies of all relevant qualifications
  • For applicants under 18 years old, an uncertified copy of a parent or guardian’s identity document
